Vox Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Vox, the macOS dictation app provided by Paleo, and the Vox product page at paleo.technology/products/vox. In these Terms, "Paleo," "we," and "us" mean Paleo. "You" means the person using Vox or, when applicable, the organization on whose behalf that person acts.
Please read these Terms before using Vox. By downloading, installing, or using the app, or using the Vox product page, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Vox.
1. How these Terms relate to Apple and Paleo's website terms
If you obtain Vox through the Mac App Store, Apple handles the store transaction and its Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions apply to the purchase and use of the App Store. Unless Paleo provides a custom end-user license agreement through the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement governs the license to the app. These Terms explain additional Vox-specific conditions and do not replace Apple's purchase terms or the applicable app license. If these Terms conflict with the applicable app license about rights to use the app, the app license controls.
Paleo's general website Terms of Service also apply when you use the broader paleo.technology website. If those general terms conflict with these Terms about Vox-specific functionality, these Terms control for Vox. Apple's applicable terms continue to control its store and payment services.
2. Who may use Vox
You must be legally able to agree to these Terms. If you use Vox for an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to act for it and that the organization is responsible for your use of the app. You are responsible for complying with laws that apply to your use of recording and transcription, including any notice or consent requirements where you use your microphone.
Vox requires an Apple Silicon Mac running a supported version of macOS. Some features require microphone and Accessibility permissions, available speech assets, and other operating-system capabilities. You control whether to grant or revoke permissions in macOS. If a required permission or system capability is unavailable, the related feature may not work.
3. Purchases and refunds
Any price, purchase type, renewal terms, and available features are displayed in the Mac App Store or the applicable in-app purchase flow before you buy. Apple processes App Store payments, taxes, receipts, subscription management if offered, and refund requests under its terms and applicable law. Paleo does not collect your payment-card details for those transactions. You can request a refund through Apple's refund process; eligibility depends on Apple's rules and applicable consumer law.
If Vox offers a subscription, its price, billing interval, and renewal terms will be shown in the purchase flow. You can manage or cancel an App Store subscription in your Apple Account settings. Removing Vox from your Mac does not cancel an active subscription. A purchase or refund may affect access to paid features as described in the purchase flow and Apple's terms.
4. What Vox does and its practical limits
Vox converts speech into text on your Mac using Apple's speech technology. Depending on your settings, it may apply personal dictionary corrections and an optional on-device post-processing check. It can save completed dictations locally, copy text to the clipboard, and attempt to insert it into a field that was focused when recording began.
Speech recognition and post-processing may mishear, omit, add, or format words incorrectly. You should review text before relying on it or sending it to someone else. Automatic insertion depends on macOS and the destination app exposing a suitable, unchanged text field. Vox may be unable to insert a result, and a reported paste attempt does not guarantee that the other app accepted it. You remain responsible for checking the destination text.
Vox does not provide a cloud backup or synchronization service for dictation history. Your saved dictations and personal dictionary are stored on your Mac. You are responsible for maintaining any backups you need and for managing access to your device, clipboard, and destination apps. Deleting Vox or changing devices may leave local data inaccessible or remove it, depending on how you manage your Mac and backups.
5. Your words and other content
You keep any rights you have in the words you dictate, the text Vox produces from them, and your personal dictionary entries. These Terms do not transfer ownership of that content to Paleo. You are responsible for the content you create and for deciding where to copy, paste, publish, or send it. You must have any rights or permissions needed to use audio and content you provide to Vox, including another person's speech where applicable.
Vox processes dictations locally rather than sending them to Paleo for transcription or storage. For details on local processing and information Paleo may receive through support or the website, see the Vox Privacy Policy published alongside these Terms.
6. Permitted use
Use Vox and its website lawfully and in accordance with these Terms and the applicable Apple license. Do not use Vox to violate another person's privacy or rights, record someone without required permission, infringe intellectual-property rights, or create or distribute unlawful content. Do not interfere with Vox's operation, the product website, or another person's use of either. Do not try to gain unauthorized access to Paleo's systems.
Nothing in these Terms restricts rights that applicable law does not allow us to restrict, including rights concerning software interoperability or security research.
7. Third-party products and services
Vox relies on macOS features and Apple's speech and on-device model capabilities. Apple may manage or download speech assets needed for a language. If you insert or paste a dictation into another app, that app and any service connected to it handle the text under their own terms and privacy practices. Paleo does not control those apps or guarantee their compatibility with Vox. You are responsible for complying with the terms that apply to the destination you choose.
8. Updates, availability, and support
We may update Vox to fix issues, improve compatibility, or change features. The Mac App Store and your device settings may control when updates are installed. We do not promise that every feature, language, or integration will remain available, or that Vox will work with every Mac, microphone, operating-system release, or destination app. Where required by law, we will give notice or provide a remedy for a material change.
For product help, contact support@paleo.technology. We may ask for details needed to investigate an issue, but do not send sensitive dictations or recordings unless you choose to and they are necessary for support.
9. Warranties and responsibility
We aim to provide a useful and reliable app, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted operation, error-free transcription, a particular level of accuracy, or successful insertion into every app. To the extent permitted by applicable law, Vox and the Vox product page are provided without additional warranties beyond those expressly required by law or stated in the applicable app license.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Paleo is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of Vox, such as lost data, lost profits, or text sent to the wrong recipient after you have accepted or sent it. This does not exclude or limit liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including any mandatory consumer rights. The applicable Apple app license may contain additional warranty and liability terms for the licensed app.
10. Ending use
You may stop using Vox and remove it from your Mac at any time. You can also delete dictations through the app. Removing the app alone may not remove all locally saved Vox data, and it does not cancel an App Store subscription if one applies. Your rights to use an App Store copy may end under the applicable app license. We may restrict access to a Paleo-operated website feature if you violate these Terms or misuse our systems, subject to applicable law. Because Vox does not require a Paleo account to dictate and stores history locally, we do not remotely manage your local dictations.
Sections that by their nature should continue after use ends, including provisions about ownership, responsibility, and disputes, continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms as Vox and our practices change. We will post the updated version with a new effective date. If a change requires additional notice or consent under applicable law, we will provide it. A change does not take away rights or remedies you already have under applicable law.
12. Governing law and disputes
Except where mandatory law provides otherwise, the laws of California, United States, govern these Terms, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes under these Terms may be brought in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California. Nothing in this section limits any consumer right to bring a claim in another court or under another law where that right cannot be waived. The applicable Apple app license and Apple Media Services terms separately govern disputes arising under those agreements.
